The Reading festival – also know as the Carling festival shares the same weekend as the Leeds festival.

These two festivals generally have the same acts, give or take one or two. They take place on the August Bank holiday weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They are well recognised for showing alternative types of music, as well as indie, punk and metal.
The Reading festival has roots back as far as 1961. Originally this was the National jazz festival. The festival, through the years has changed its name and location several times, but since 1971 it has been held at Reading.

This year the line up for Friday 24th August is headlined by Razorlight as well as Kings of Leon and many more, while Saturday 25th August will host The Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well as Arcade Fire and on Sunday the festival will finish with The Smashing Pumpkins and Fall Out Boy.
